thank you much G-Sun! :) I really really respect what YOU've done for the wiki, its a shame there is so less traffic here:( (or at least i have the feeling it is). Though there's plenty of good information.

BTW if you like to search the wiki by google i've got a search plugin for Firefox here ;)

cheers G-Sun

Thanks! I'll download those. Really helpful tools :) BTW: Why do you think most Reaper-users don't care so much about the wiki? G-Sun 08:28, 5 August 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for the misunderstanding, the language is not my greatest strength.
I meant Reaper users do care about the wiki, at least the ones who know about it;) I think many Reaper users just dont know about ::its existence and as a great source of structured and compacted information.
I felt so because when im around in the forums, when a problem arises its getting less mentioned than f.e. the user guide or some ::helping posts. But this is just my personal feeling.
Also when i discovered the wiki, at this point i couldnt estimate the dimension of good articles in here.
So thats why i like what you did among other things. Bringing some overviews, adding links, etc.
So thanks again!

Well, thank you again! Well, more misunderstanding :) It's my impression as well that Reaper-users don't care that much about the wiki. So, I'm asking you if you could help me understand why :)
Myself I'm guessing that since Geoffrey is doing so good work with the pdf-manual, they feel it's no point trying to make a good wiki-manual.
Personally, I must say however that a manual of 300 and some pages has a huge turn-off effect on me.. (compared with a wiki-page) G-Sun 12:11, 7 August 2011 (UTC)
:D Ahhhh okay then, Veto: reading and writing: F
Hmmm, as for possible reasons i could think of why people may favour the manual then the wiki :
  • the manual is a traditional media-type, like a book etc.
  • consistent writing style and layout (only one author)
  • the grade of professionality which Goeffrey is showing in his manuals (thats not meaning wiki articles arent professional!! ;))
  • many users may have the impression that all essential info about REAPER is available in one sheet/file, which is not
  • big gaps of information in the wiki (its a vicious circle :))
  • the ability to print the manual out as a whole
  • wiki is less structured and overviewed (thanks to you its getting better)
  • many users may not aware of search functions in the wiki
  • having your machine wired to the internet
And possible reasons why less people participate in the wiki:
  • lack of time/language skills/passion/confidence
  • the barriers of writing (registering, formatting, etc)
besides i've never read the manual in the ordinary way like a book too because of its size. For me its just about to have the ability to find the missing information the time you search for it :)
cheers

Yes, guess you're right. I have the same preference for a wiki-manual as you :) Cheers G-Sun 07:55, 12 August 2011 (UTC)
