The Current State
The routing window is extremly useful, but can get unwieldy very quickly for sessions that have more than ten tracks. The routing window of a session may look like this :

The Problems
Even though Reaper gives you a popup tooltip of what patchpoint your mouse cursor is currently hovering over, it is very difficult to read that as your mouse cursor moves over other patchpoints, because the size of the tooltip and layout is constantly changing to accomodate the track numbers and names.
Solutions
The proposed design in its current state attempts to help users obtain the information they need more quickly, this being the names of the tracks whose connecting patchpoint their mouse cursor currently hovers over. This is done in more than one way and they all complement each other.
- Highlighting the source row and destination column. This row and column highlighting does not obscure other patchpoints. The highlight actualy replaces the background colour only, and existing patch points that this highlight crosses are inverted.
- Colouring of the highlights with the track colours. Users who make active use of track colouring will benefit from an additional visual cue as to which patch point they are currently targetting
- Source and Destination track names bolded and increased in size. The font of the source on the left and the destination at the top have their font size increased and turned bold.
- Beyond 12 tracks the source and destination is printing on top of the highlights next to the patch point.
- Track numbers in the source section on the left of the matrix are left aligned separately from the source names. This makes for more readiblity for both the track numbers and the track names.
