Reaper Terms
Track Types
Track
A track can contain multiple audio events and envelopes.
Folder
A folder can contain other tracks and also audio events and envelopes.
The folders will also be displayed in the Mixer view.
Stem
Allows you to render selected tracks to disk at the same time (or in lieu of) the main mix. You can use it to "freeze" fx on tracks, or to render each track in a mix (a "stem" as they are called) so that a mastering engineer (or whoever) can later on adjust the mix.
