Misc: Pass through key to main window

Sections: MIDI Editor, MIDI Event List Editor (Cmd ID 40401)
All keys assigned to this action will be passed through to the Main section of the action list and trigger the action which is assigned to the same key. It isn't an action on it's own, but a way to trigger multiple other actions that don't exist in the MIDI editor sections while Piano Roll or Event List editor has focus. Here's an example:
Problem:
The MIDI Piano Roll editor and MIDI Event List don't have a record button and the action "Transport: Record" is not available in the MIDI Editor sections of the action list.
Solution:
- open the action list and switch the section to MIDI Editor
- type "pass through" into the filter box
- hit the "Add" button
- hit CTRL+R on the keyboard and confirm with "OK". (CTRL+R is Reaper's default shortcut to start/stop recording while in main view. If you have assigned a custom key for "Transport: Record", you want to hit that custom record shortcut key.)
- now CTRL+R will toggle the record button in the main transport window while the Piano Roll Editor has focus.
Other main window actions that are good candidates to be triggered using Misc: Pass through key to main window are:
- View: Toggle auto-view-scroll on playback
- Item edit: Toggle open/close nudge/set dialog
- All kinds of marker actions (e.g.: Markers: Insert marker at current position, Markers: Go to marker nn)
- Item Navigation: Move edit cursor to next transient in item
- Item Navigation: Move edit cursor to previous transient in item
The latter two are nice with Preferences -> Editing Behavior: "Tab through notes in MIDI items" checked!
