This is what I think should happen as far as peaks and background in the loop, and or being selected.

There are a lot of choices in the Reaper color theme. Too many I think. This scheme makes more sense where you have a global background color, a loop color, and individual track colors, and the selections are permutations of that. I will makes another thread for a FR.
In fact! I just discovered! Reaper does do something similar if you assign a custom color to a track. Here the item is selected.
I don't like that the waveforms simply become the background, it would be more usefull (and visually pleasing) if the peaks were colored in a shade of the track color when selected. This way if you have different items selected across multiple tracks, the waveforms are not all the background color.
This might seem slightly trivial but things like this are important when it comes to editing. I've been trying to set up a color schemm that works for me while editing in Reaper. Looks like making tracks custom colors is the closest I can get.
