ASIO dropout automatic markers
as I said before, samplitude, when it detects a drop out in the ASIO buffer during recording, it automatically makes a marker on the timeline in that place, so you can see exactly where the errors are. This has helped me a number of times:
after the recording, it pops a box up that says:
"2 ASIO RECORD ERRORS OCCURED"
and then it asks you if you want to keep the take. Of course, REAPER already asks us if we wants to keep certain takes, but it doesnt warn of ASIO dropouts. Afterwards, if you keep the takes, Samplitude drops markers at the spots where the errors occured, so you can re-record it. When i get on a pc with samp on it i will post up the actual shots, but this is how it would look in reaper:

here is how samplitude does it -- I used extremely low buffer settings and was also running a DVD movie to induce severe buffer dropouts.
also, notice the other information you get from samp about the recording...
and then if you accept the recording....
you see the markers it made? Well, you dont see all 74, but if you zoomed in you would see more and more. Each one is numbered...
now in your typical recording, unless you are purposely making it happen (as i was) or you are a completely incompetent moron, you wont have 74 record errors in 5 seconds time hehe...
maybe one or two over a session, if perhaps your buffer was too low, or there was some other strange occurrence on your pc.
But how nice to know EXACTLY where they occurred.
Im sure reaper could do this even more elegantly than samp even

the rme drivers even have some "special" routines for this when using asio in samplitude. would be nice to have this feature in reaper too ...
here one of the last driver-changelogs:
"ASIO Error detection fixed (Samplitude/Sequoia)" (hdsp_wdm_beta4)

Plus one from me too. This would be extremely helpful during tracking.

Old thread but still, can this even be implemented? Or does it have driver dependencies? It's really useful because now I have no clue of there even have been dropouts (my profire 2626 doesn't have a control panel with that info).

Does anyone have more technical details on what kind of error from the ASIO driver gets reported by Samplitude, or what exactly that item in the RME driver changelog refers to?

It's outdated. Now RME says this:

DC = RME DIGICheck (which has a record function)

no, I strongly doubt it Dependant on any type of driver, I have seen it work with multiple interfaces.

I hope it can be implemented then!
I've added my vote.
My DM3200 mixer has a asio dropout count in control panel though, but I would really would like to see this in my mobile rig too (driver independent), it's a great advantage I think because ASIO dropouts are a big PITA.

I just tried this in Samplitude and it works great..
It makes markers with an E everywhere you get lost buffers in your recording.
Can this still be implemented?

Too bad it doesn't get attention from devs.. I'm thinking of switching to Samplitude just because of this.. Right now recording is russian roulette, you never know if somewhere a dropout happened..

Well this is certainly an old thread and such a great suggestion too. Eleven years and this feature doesn't exist! It doesn't happen to me often, but every once in a while I forget to increase my ASIO buffers before doing some live takes (as a precaution) and I'll get a click or two in a great take and only notice much, much later after the performer has left. :-( An indication it's happening in real-time would be fantastic.
BTW, I tried to vote for the feature, but I guess the forum is broken because I keep getting a 500 error!
Well hopefully we get this feature before another eleven years pass...
