Default no midi recorded, snap back/forward to last/first beat

one thing that is cool about recording midi in FLStudio, is when you go to record an 8 bar loop, it wont really start adding notes until you start playing -- and then if it goes to 9 bars, but there is no midi notes in that 9th bar, it will trim that last bar off, and you have a nicely made midi loop.

get the idea?

I think it would be great in REAPER.

instead of having a lot of space in front of and after your actual midi recording, it trims automagically to only the stuff you played. Its not destructive in any way because this includes any CC messages, ANY midi stuff.

I cant think of any reason this shouldnt be in there

Ya, that´s nice when doing midi stuff.
But if you record a miditrack with some audio, it´s better to have it follow the audiotracks length.
So somehow it needto be as an option or something.

I'm assuming there's pre-buffering of the audio inputs going on? A cool thing would be if there was a default to make the clip length dependent on detection of the first "obvious" audio value.

So that way, even if you've got it set to loop record from a virtual pre-roll of a few seconds, you don't have to edit those seconds out after the fact... You just get a bunch of nice clean clips with nothing in front of them....

Effectively as a feature:

"detect and remove silence from start of recorded tracks?"

One first step towards this could be a working punch in/out recording mode for midi, no ?
You insert a marker where you want the recording to begin & to end, you hit record, but the clip will get recorded only when reaching the marker, and will end up when reaching the "end" marker.
It works for audio, not for midi.
THis is not 100% what you asked for, but i guess we're coming closer, right ?
