Default pseudo control surface ala virtual midi keyboard?

what if there was a simple, virtual control surface in reaper kinda like the virtual midi keyboard?

i.e., a "mixer only" window opens (like the virtual keyboard window) and you could realtime control multiple faders in banks of 8 or 10 via the QWERTY keyboard. "faders" could move in 1 db or other user selectable increments per click. a simple rough mix balance could be done fairly fast on the fly this way.

for example:

useful idea or complete shit?

I did think about this once D, and ended up buying a cheap second midi keyboard, and using that as a control surface. Best thing is with reaper, i've allocated quite a few Key commands to 'notes' and stuck little notes above them indicating what they are.
Works a treat. If you're going to do it this way, be sure to get one with sliders, as well as knobs, as you can allocate these to faders in the programme.

Alex.
