Default Brown Sugar? ( A Coffee and Cream Mod)

Note: Please rename the Coffee & Cream 2 to something else at White Ties request. I'm sure his REAL 2 will kick my mod in the ass!

Here is modification of White Ties C&C skin. Quick summary of mods..

1. Made all fader caps and thumbs smaller.
2. Made fader and thumb grooves skinnier in the TCP.
3. Seperated grooves for fader / pan in the TCP.
4. Seperated the fader groove-track from the record enable button in the TCP. They seemed to touch in the original.
5. Sized toolbar icons down.
6. Changed "selected track" gradient" in the mixer and TCP.
7. Changed selected media item color.

I'm not crazy about the record enable button. I might go hi-jack a nice square one from another daw and add it to the theme.

I wish there was a way to have more forecolor control over each text field in the TCP and mixer. I also think the [#] format for track numbers should go. Just use the number without enclosing it maybe?

Looking good Lawrence! Tell me why do the faders all say 0.00dB, but they seem to be aligned @ or near -18dB on the meter scale?
Just wondering, as the original WT version does the same type thing, which is kinda confusing to me.

Cheers,

Billy Buck

That scale is for metering and has nothing to do with the actual fader position. There is no fader scale in this theme. Is there one in the others?

I'll have a look... nope. No fader scale. I'm not sure if that's common among daws or not... I'll have a look at Cubase... nope... there are spaced marks behind the Cubase fader but no numbered scale. I suppose that's normal.

The actual fader scale reference is at the bottom in Reaper, it changes to reflect the current position. Same with Cubase.

I really like where this is going, but am I the only one that can't see the track numbers in unselected (track view) or selected (mixer view) tracks? (As a side question, why are those colors inconsistent?)

I find the shadowed text a little hard to read in the VU meter too, but that's probably just me.

Great work everyone! Keep 'em coming, and don't let bozos like me get you down.

I know your still in progress (I love what your doing) WT vision is coming to life!!

Would like to see lines that devide the track both in the mixer and on the track line mixer.

Also I tend to keep my pans on the mixer at the top so the White letters get lost below the pans.

Also the White letters in the track line on teh left that state track number get washed out too.

Just observation. Thanks so much for what you and the other guys are doing. Really tweaking this into something that looks as well as it works.

You work out at the gym and build the body but you gotta get the face to go with it LOL!!!

Nice work Lawrence.

Meanwhile, I modified the VU graphics of master, track and the mixer slightly. Each channel on the master track had two small level meters, which confused me, so I merged them. Each track on it has one peak meter and one RMS meter now.

The track and mixer tracks level meters had their colours shifted a bit, since I don't like having so much red colour in the top levels. I usualy associate red with overload, which is what we have on the tracks anyway.

Copy the three images in the ZIP to your "Coffee&Cream(modified)" or "Coffee&Cream" directory, overwriting the old images.

Cool. Thanks. I'm just waiting too see what incredible things WT comes up with next. The man has serious skills.

{edit after copying the meters} Wow. The metering is nice! Can you take that red even up higher than that? I haven't tried screwing around with the metering yet. (end edit)

Yeah I saw that too.

I hope that later on Justin will allow the different text labels to be colored differently, for top and bottom and for normal and selected. That way the themes can change the label colors as required.

What you can do with this theme is to have a mixer gradient with three colors, dark/light/dark with just enough dark at the top for the labels to show with white text.

Give it a try and post it.

Don't know. Ask White Tie... I haven't done any skinning of meters yet.

Here is the updated mcp & TP panels. Added channel borders (kind of) and a backpanel for the mixer ch # so you can see the numbers. I tried to do the same with the TCP numbers but they get stretched too much. Maybe later the skin will have seperate graphics for the track number backgrounds and the panel backgrounds.

Even in the mixer, if you size it too tall those black baground squares get stretched all to hell.

I may have solved the TCP track number problem (kinda) by using a background section behind the number with a transparency that doesn't look so bad when you stretch the track height.

If anyone wants this tcp panel graphic let me know and I'll attach it.

I didn't change any of the TCP or mixer icons except for record enable. I resized the toolbar icons and those will not be as sharp as the originals since they were 96 dpi and I sized them down about 75%. They did lose a little sharpness in that process.

With graphics that small and at a generally low resolution 96 vs. 300 ? they will lose something with resizing. WT would know better than me about that stuff.

If any of the other icons look fuzzy you'll have to talk to WT since those are the original icons.

And the main reason... I don't have WT's graphical skill!

Maybe he'll provide us with smaller versions of the originals that are just as sharp. That would be really nice.

That's all nice, but:

did you all have a look at the performance meter already? That new GUI-style seems to use a lot of CPU-power! On my Athlon XP2500 just moving a mixer knob brings the CPU use up to 50% ! With an old theme, it's just 20% (also much...)

Nice variations on a theme Lawrence, but I guess you could at least have mentioned White Tie in the original post . This is not just another color/icon thing, it must have really been a lot of work to get this all right. Groundbreaking work even - the first skinned REAPER.

Your track number solution is very fine. Good thinking.

I thought I did. In no way shape or form did I ever intend to take credit for his fine work. I assumed everyone here knew where it came from since it made such a huge splash when he posted it.

If anyone got that impression that this was my work initially... you give me WAY too much credit. I'm not that talented. Let me say it again..

WHITE TIE DID THIS - WHITE TIE DID THIS - WHITE TIE DID THIS

I'm just having fun with the mods.... btw... feel free to join in... I'm curious what other people will do with the skinning. The thing is though, the icons WT used for the TCP and the mixer are perfect. It makes no sense to try to design something different. I just happened to not personally like the rec enable button, but it was fine.

Reaper should install those icons as default when new users install it. The only things left to play with is the colors and the toolbar icons... which I made fuzzy.

Here's another darker one. In this one I used 3 color gradients on the TCP panels so all the text is visible on the left and right. It works better than the transparency method I used and seems to give the app more of a 3d look.

I also changed the meter backgrounds. Note the line seperating the LR channels and the brown/green tint. Whatever this one evolves into will be the skin I use permanently.

I find it hard to take issue with anything in this one apart from the white lines in the meters, which for me is visually confusing in an element where at-a-glance clarity is most important. It's neat though! Great work by all concerned.

I've now substituted your original mod of the WT meters, which I prefer, but more solid colour would still be better for me at least.

Having looked at the .png designs I can see the work that's gone into this and I'm impressed - but personally probably unable to make my own mods!

BTW, I'm viewing Reaper on a fine pair of 19 inch widescreen LCDs I have just installed. And it looks pretty damn good. I can even have the Big Clock on the laptop beneath them too!

I've had that problem before and couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

A weird color will border the scrollbars out of nowhere. I once had a theme with a red border around the scrollbars and there was no red in the entire theme. ??

Maybe the big J can chime in on that?

Seems I remember somebody's theme had pinkish looking lines around thr scroll bars. There was some color setting somewhere to make the edges go transparent or something? It had something to do with aliasing I think.

Anyway, this is the theme I'm using now. Nice job guys!

Yes, thanks to White Tie (original theme) & Lawrence (Brown Mod), I tweaked a bit further, for my tastes. I appreciate all the new eye candy, but I went for a little less on the meters and it still looks great!

I believe that it comes from the 3D Shadow colour! Try it and see. don't know why, but it does.

That skinny white line on the meters is because I didn't size the graphic I overlayed on them wide enough... I came up about a pixel short.

Just import the meter graphics into a paint prog and do some cloning or whatever. It is distacting as Art says.

Correction. The original graphic had a slant. I had to go in and paint that.
